Foods That Can Make Your Mood Better

Most of us believe that comfort foods are not good for us and that we should keep away from them. At times, if your comfort food is made of candy or other junk foods, this can be true. Otherwise, comfort foods could be really healthy and good for you. There are some foods that, when you eat them, can improve your mood. When you are feeling a little down and are in need of an emotional boost, test out a few of these.

Eggs, you might be surprised to find out, are terrific at fighting depression. You need to see to it, however, that what you make includes the egg yolk. The egg yolk is the part of the egg that is the most important in terms of helping you cheer up. Eggs, the yolk particularly, are rich in B vitamins. B vitamins can be fantastic for raising your mood. This is because they improve the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that dictate how you feel). Eat an egg and cheer up!

Make several trail mix of nuts or seeds. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, etc are all wonderful for raising your mood. This is because seeds and nuts have plenty of magnesium which boosts your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is the “feel good” natural substance that directs your brain how you feel at all times. The higher your levels of serotonin, the more pleasant you are going to feel. Not only that but nuts, particularly, are a terrific protein source.

Cold water fish are excellent for eating if you are wanting to beat back depression. Salmon, herring, tuna fish, mackerel, trout, etcetera, they’re all high in omega-3s and DHA. These are two substances that boost the quality and function of the grey matter in your brain. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can greatly boost your mood.

Some grains are actually wonderful for driving away bad moods. Barley, millet, quinoa, etc are terrific at helping you have a happier mood. They can help you feel full for longer too, helping you feel better. It’s easy to feel a little bit off when you are starving! These grains can improve your mood since it’s not at all hard for your body to digest them. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps jumpstart a rise in your blood glucose which in turn kicks up your mood to a happier place.

Green tea is really good for your mood. You were simply expecting to read that, weren’t you? Green tea is rich in an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Studies have found that this specific amino acid can basically induce brain waves. This helps improve your mental energy while at the same time relaxing the rest of your body. You probably already knew it is not difficult to become healthy when you drink green tea. Now you know that applies to your mood as well!

So you see, you don’t need to eat junk food or foods that are terrible for you to feel better! Try a few of these instead!
