Foods That Can Make You Happy

A lot of us have been trained to believe that comfort foods are not good and are to be avoided. However, if your comfort food is candy or junk food this holds true. At times, comfort foods can be very nourishing and good for us to consume. A number of foods really do improve your mood when you consume them. If you are feeling a little bit down and you’re needing an emotional pick me up, try some of these.

Eggs, you may be surprised to discover, are great at combating depression. You should make sure, however, that what you make includes the egg yolk. Every time you want to cheer yourself up, the yolk is the most essential part of the egg. Eggs, the egg yolks especially, are rich in B vitamins. B vitamins can be great for raising your mood. This is because these vitamins help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that control your mood–function better. Consume an egg and jolly up!

Put together a trail mixfrom various seeds and nuts. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, and so on are all wonderful for raising your mood. This is possible as these foods are high in magnesium which increases serotonin production. Serotonin is called the “feel good” substance that our body produces and it tells your brain how you should be feeling all the time. The more of it you have, the happier you are going to feel. Not just that, nuts, particularly, are a great protein source.

If you would like to defeat depression, you should eat some cold water fish. Salmon, herring, tuna, mackerel, trout, etc, they’re all high in omega-3 and DHA. DHA and omega-3s are two things that improve the quality and the function of your brain’s gray matter. It’s true: chomping on a tuna fish sandwich can basically help you overcome depression.

Some grains are really great for fighting off bad moods. Barley, quinoa, millet, teff, etc are all great for helping you be in a happier state of mind. They help you feel full too which can actually help to make your mood better. Feeling starved can be terrible! The reason these grains help your mood so much is that they are not hard for your stomach to digest. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps jumpstart a rise in your sugar levels which in turn kicks up your mood to a happier place.

Your mood could really be helped by green tea. You just knew green tea had to be included in this article, right? Green tea is found to be chock-full of an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Studies have discovered that this amino acid essentially stimulates brain waves. This helps better your mental focus while relaxing the rest of your body. You knew that green tea helps you become better. Now you know that applies to your mood as well!

As you can see, you don’t need to eat junk food or foods that are bad for you just so to feel better! Try these tips instead!
