Use Food to Boost Your Mood

Many of us have been trained to think that comfort foods are not good and must be avoided. At times, if your comfort food is made of candy or other junk foods, this holds true. Otherwise, comfort foods may be really nourishing and good for you. There are some foods that basically can raise your moods when you eat them. When you feel a little down and need an emotional boost, test out a few of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, can be really great at dealing with depression. Just be sure that you don’t toss out the yolk. The egg yolk is the part of the egg that is the most crucial in terms of helping elevate your mood. Eggs, the egg yolks in particular, are high in B vitamins. B vitamins can actually help you elevate your mood. This is because they improve the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that dictate how you feel). Try consuming some eggs to jolly up!

Put together a trail mixfrom different seeds and nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, and so on are all fantastic for helping to raise your mood. This is because seeds and nuts have plenty of magnesium which boosts your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is a feel-good substance that tells the brain how to feel at any given point in time. The higher your levels of serotonin, the better you are going to feel. Nuts, on top of bettering your mood, can be a superb source of protein.

Cold water fish are excellent for eating if you wish to combat depression. Salmon, herring, tuna, mackerel, trout, etcetera, they’re all chock-full of omega-3s and DHA. DHA and omega-3s are two things that truly help the grey matter in your brain function a lot better. It’s the truth: consuming tuna fish sandwiches can really help you battle your depression.

It’s not hard to fight your bad mood when you are eating grains. Quinoa, barley, teff, millet, etc are all good for helping you feel better. They help you feel full as well which can actually help to improve your mood. It’s easy to feel a little bit off when you feel famished! The reason these grains elevate your mood is that they are not hard for your stomach to digest. They are easier to digest than other foods which helps bring up your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, improves your mood.

Green tea is wonderful for moods. You were simply anticipating to read that in this article, weren’t you? Green tea is found to be rich in an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Studies have found that this specific amino acid can basically induce brain waves. This helps focus your mental energy while at the same time making the rest of your body more relaxed. You probably already knew it is not hard to get healthy when you drink green tea. Now you are well aware that it helps you to elevate your moods as well!

You can see, you don’t need to eat junk food or foods that are terrible for you just so to feel better! Try several of these instead!
