Foods That Make You Happy

A lot of us think that comfort foods are terrible for us and that we need to stay away from them. Often, if your comfort food is basically candy or other junk foods, this is true. Other times, though, comfort foods can be completely nourishing and it’s good for you to eat them. There are some foods that, when you consume them, can boost your mood. If you are feeling a little bit down and you need a happiness pick me up, try some of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, can be actually wonderful at dealing with depression. You must make sure, though, that what you make includes the egg yolk. The egg yolk is the most crucial part of the egg in terms of helping you cheer up. Eggs, the yolk in particular, are rich in B vitamins. These B vitamins are terrific for helping to boost your mood. This is because the B vitamins improve the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that affect how you feel). Eat an egg and jolly up!

Build a trail mix out of seeds and/or nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, and so on are all fantastic for helping to boost your mood. This is because these foods are loaded with magnesium, which helps to raise serotonin production. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical that directs your brain how you feel day in and day out. The more of this chemical in your brain, the better you’ll feel. Not only that but nuts, particularly, are a terrific protein food source.

If you wish to overcome depression, try eating some cold water fish. Wild salmon, herring, mackerel, trout, and tuna are all rich in omega-3 fatty acids and DHA. These are two substances that boost the quality and function of the gray matter in your brain. It’s the truth: consuming tuna fish sandwiches can actually help you overcome your depression.

Some grains are actually great for fighting off bad moods. Barley, millet, quinoa, etc are excellent at helping you be happier. These grains fill you up better and that can help improve your moods too. It’s not hard to feel low when you feel famished! The reason these grains elevate your mood is that they are easy for your stomach to digest. They are simpler to digest than other foods which helps bring up your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, improves your mood.

Your mood could actually be helped by green tea. You were just waiting to read that in this article, weren’t you? Green tea is loaded with an amino acid called L-theanine. Studies prove that this specific amino acid can essentially stimulate brain waves. This helps better your mental focus while calming the rest of your body. You probably already knew it is not hard to become healthy when you drink green tea. And now you know it can help you be happier also!

So you see, you don’t need junk food or foods that are terrible for you just so to feel better! Try a few of these instead!
