Foods That Can Make Your Mood Better

In general, people have been conditioned to think that “comfort” foods are not good for the body and should be avoided. However, if your comfort food is candy or junk food this might be true. At times, comfort foods can be very nourishing and good for us to consume. There are some foods that, when you eat them, could boost your mood. If you feel a little bit down and you need a happiness pick me up, try some of these.

Eggs, you might be amazed to learn, are great at battling depression. You need to be sure, however, that what you make includes the egg yolk. The yolk is the most crucial part of the egg in terms of helping you cheer up. Eggs, particularly the yolks, are loaded with B vitamins. B vitamins can truly help you elevate your mood. This is because they help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that control your mood–run better. Consume an egg and feel happier!

Put together a trail mixout of various seeds and nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, etc are all terrific for helping to elevate your mood. This is because seeds and nuts have plenty of magnesium which raises your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is called the “feel good” substance that our body produces and it tells your brain how you should be feeling at all times. The more of it you have, the happier you are going to feel. Nuts, in addition to raising your mood, can be a superb protein source.

If you want to overcome depression, try eating some cold water fish. Salmon, herring, tuna fish, mackerel, trout, etcetera, they’re all high in omega-3 fatty acids and DHA. These are two substances that boost the quality and function of the gray matter in your brain. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can really help you overcome depression.

It’s not hard to drive away your bad mood when you consume grains. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all truly excellent for helping boost your happiness levels. They fill you up better and that can help you with your moods also. Feeling starved can be a real downer! The reason these grains are so great for your mood is that they are not difficult to digest. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps jumpstart a rise in your sugar levels which in turn brings up your mood to a happier place.

Your mood could truly be helped by green tea. You were sure it had to be mentioned in this article, right? Green tea is found to be rich in an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Studies show that this particular amino acid can basically stimulate brain waves. This will better your brain’s focus while simultaneously relaxing the rest of your body. You knew that green tea helps you be healthier. Now you know it can help raise your mood also!

Now you realize that junk food isn’t necessarily what you should eat when you wish to help your moods get better. Try some of these hints instead.
