Foods That Can Make You Happy

Mostly, people have been conditioned to think that “comfort” foods are not good for the body and should be avoided. At times, if the comfort food is candy or some other junk food, this is very true. Otherwise, comfort foods could be really nourishing and good for you. There are several foods that, when you consume them, can improve your mood. If you seem to feel a little bit down and you need a happiness pick me up, try a couple of these.

Eggs, would you believe, are wonderful for helping you battle depression. You should be sure, though, that what you make includes the egg yolk. The yolk is the part of the egg that is the most important in terms of helping elevate your mood. Eggs, the yolk in particular, are stuffed full of B vitamins. These B vitamins are terrific for helping to raise your mood. This is because they help in improving the function of your neural transmitters, the parts of your brain that control your mood. Try to eat an egg and feel happier!

Build a trail mix from seeds and/or nuts. Your mood can be raised by consuming peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, etcetera. This is because seeds and nuts have plenty of magnesium which boosts your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical substance that directs your brain how you feel all the time. The more serotonin you have, the happier you will feel. Not just that but nuts, specifically, are a fantastic protein source.

Cold water fish are excellent if you wish to feel better. Salmon, herring, tuna fish, mackerel, trout, etcetera, they’re all high in omega-3 and DHA. These are two things that improve the quality and the function of your brain’s gray matter. It’s the truth: eating tuna fish sandwiches can really help you overcome your depression.

Some grains are actually excellent for fighting off bad moods. Barley, quinoa, millet, teff, etc are all good for helping you feel happier. These foods fill you up better and that can help elevate your moods as well. Feeling famished can truly bring you down! The reason these grains elevate your mood is that they are not difficult for your body to digest. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps promote a rise in your glucose levels which in turn brings up your mood to a happier place.

Green tea is wonderful for moods. You just knew green tea had to be included in this article, right? Green tea has a lot of an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Studies have found that this amino acid actually stimulates brain waves. This helps better your mental focus while relaxing the rest of your body. You probably already knew it is not hard to get healthy when you consume green tea. Now you are well aware that green tea helps you to elevate your moods too!

So you see, you don’t need to eat junk food or foods that are terrible for you so you can feel better! Test out these hints instead!
