Foods That Make You Happy
Many of us have been trained to believe that comfort foods are terrible and must be avoided. At times, if your comfort food is made of candy or other junk foods, this is true. Otherwise, comfort foods may be super nourishing and good for you. There are several foods that, when you consume them, could better your mood. If you feel a little bit down and need a happiness pick me up, try a few of these.
Eggs, believe it or not, can be really wonderful at beating back depression. Just be sure that you don’t toss out the egg yolk. The egg yolk is the most crucial part of the egg in terms of helping raise your mood. Eggs, the yolk in particular, are rich in B vitamins. B vitamins can be great for elevating your mood. This is because these vitamins increase the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that dictate how you feel). Consume an egg and feel a lot happier!
Put together several trail mix of nuts or seeds. Your mood can be elevated by eating peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, etc. This is because these foods are rich in magnesium, which helps to increase serotonin production. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical substance that dictates to your brain how you feel at all times. The more of it in your brain, the more pleasant you’ll feel. Nuts, in addition to raising your mood, can be a great source of protein.
If you would like to beat depression, try consuming some cold water fish. Tuna, trout, mackerel, herring and wild salmon are all rich in omega-3 fats and DHA. These are two substances that boost the quality and function of the gray matter in your brain. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can actually help you overcome depression.
Grains can be excellent for fighting a terrible mood. Teff, barley, millet, quinoa, etc are all great for helping you feel happier. They help you feel full too which can really help to improve your mood. Feeling famished can actually make you feel terrible! The reason these grains elevate your mood is that they are easy for your body to digest. You digest these foods quicker than other foods which can help boost your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel better, mood wise.
Green tea is actually good for your mood. You knew green tea had to be in this article somewhere, right? Green tea is loaded with a certain amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Research has found that this amino acid induces the production of brain waves. This will improve your brain’s concentration while also loosening up the rest of your body. You knew green tea could help you feel better. Now you are aware that it helps you to lift your moods as well!
So you see, you don’t need to consume all that junk food when you are wanting to feel better! Try some of these instead!
