Foods That Can Make You Happy

A lot of us think that comfort foods are terrible for us and that we need to keep away from them. Often, if your comfort food is a sugary food or some other junk food, this is very true. At times, comfort foods can be very healthy and good for us to consume. Some foods really do boost your mood when you eat them. When you are feeling a little down and are needing an emotional pick-me-up, test out a couple of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, can be actually great at fighting back depression. You should see to it, though, that what you make includes the egg yolk. The yolk is the most crucial part of the egg iwhen it comes to helping elevate your mood. Eggs, the yolk particularly, are stuffed full of B vitamins. B vitamins can be fantastic for lifting up your mood. This is because they help in improving the function of your neural transmitters, the components of your brain that control your mood. Eat an egg and feel a lot happier!

Put together a few trail mix of nuts or seeds. Your mood can be elevated by consuming peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, and other types of nuts. This is because seeds and nuts have lots of magnesium which raises your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is referred to as the “feel good” chemical and it tells your brain how you should be feeling all the time. The more serotonin you have, the better you are going to feel. Not just that but nuts, specifically, are a fantastic protein food source.

Cold water fish are good if you are wanting to be in a better mood. Wild salmon, herring, mackerel, trout, and tuna are all high in omega-3 fats and DHA. DHA and omega-3s are two things that actually help the grey matter in your brain work a lot better. It’s the truth: eating tuna fish sandwiches can truly help you battle your depression.

Grains can be good for fighting a terrible mood. Barley, quinoa, millet, teff, etc are all wonderful for helping you feel happier. They help you feel full also which can really help to better your mood. Feeling famished can be awful! These grains can improve your mood because it’s not at all difficult for your body to digest them. You digest these foods quicker than other things which can help increase your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel more pleasant, mood wise.

Your mood could truly be helped by green tea. You just knew it had to be in here somewhere, right? Green tea is packed full of an amino acid called L-theanine. Research has proven that this amino acid induces the production of brain waves. This will improve your brain’s focus while at the same relaxing the rest of your body. You likely already knew it is not difficult to become healthy when you consume green tea. Now you know it can help you be happier also!

As you can see, you don’t need junk food or foods that are bad for you so you can feel better! Test out these suggestions instead!
