Foods That Make Your Mood Better
Many of us believe that comfort foods are terrible for us and that we must avoid them. But if your comfort food is candy or junk food this can be true. Other times, comfort foods can be very nourishing and good for us to eat. Some foods honestly do boost your mood when you eat them. When you feel a little down and are in need of an emotional pick-me-up, try a few of these.
Eggs, you may be surprised to find out, are terrific at fighting depression. Just see to it that you do not toss the yolk. Whenever you want to cheer yourself up, the yolk is the most important part of the egg. Eggs, the egg yolks in particular, are loaded with B vitamins. The B vitamin family can be fantastic for elevating your mood. This is because the B vitamins increase the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that dictate how you feel). Eat an egg and feel happier!
Put together a trail mixout of various seeds and nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, etcetera are all terrific for helping to elevate your mood. This is because these foods are high in magnesium, which helps to boost serotonin levels. Serotonin is known as the “feel good” chemical substance and it tells your brain how you should be feeling all the time. The more of it in your brain, the happier you’ll feel. Not only that, nuts, particularly, are a great source of protein.
If you would like to fight depression, try eating some cold water fish. Herring, trout, tuna, wild salmon, and mackerel are all full of omega-3s and DHA. These are two substances that promote the quality and function of the gray matter in your brain. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can seriously boost your mood.
Grains can be great for overcoming a terrible mood. Millet, quinoa, barley, etc are fantastic at helping you be happier. These foods fill you up better and that can help you with your moods also. It’s not hard to feel a little bit off when you feel hungry! The reason these grains are so great for your mood is that they are not hard for your body to digest and process. They are simpler to digest than other foods which helps kick up your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, raises your mood.
Green tea is fantastic for moods. You were sure it had to be in here somewhere, right? Green tea is packed full of an amino acid known as L-theanine. Research has proved that this amino acid promotes the production of brain waves. This helps better your mental sharpness while calming the rest of your body. You were already aware that that green tea helps you be a lot healthier. Now you are aware that green tea can help improve your mood also!
As you can see, you don’t need to eat junk food or foods that are bad for you just so to feel better! Try several of these instead!
