Learn How to Boost Your Mood with Food
A lot of us have been trained to believe that comfort foods are not good and must be avoided. But if your comfort food is candy or junk food this might be true. Other times, however, comfort foods can be completely healthy and it’s good for you to eat them. Several foods honestly do elevate your mood when you eat them. If you are feeling a little bit down and you’re needing an emotional pick me up, try several of these.
Eggs, believe it or not, can be actually great at beating back depression. Just make sure that you do not throw out the egg yolk. Whenever you wish to cheer yourself up, the yolk is the most crucial part of the egg. Eggs, especially the yolks, are rich in B vitamins. These B vitamins are great for helping to raise your mood. This is because these vitamins help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that affect your mood–function better. Eat an egg and jolly up!
Put together several trail mix of nuts or seeds. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, and so on are all fantastic for helping to elevate your mood. This is because seeds and nuts have lots of magnesium which raises your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical that tells your brain how you feel all the time. The more of this chemical in your brain, the more pleasant you’ll feel. Not just that, nuts, specifically, are a great protein source.
If you wish to fight depression, try consuming some cold water fish. Wild salmon, herring, mackerel, trout, and tuna are all full of omega-3s and DHA. These are two things that improve the quality and the function of your brain’s grey matter. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can actually help you fight back depression.
It’s not hard to overcome your bad mood when you are eating grains. Millet, quinoa, barley, etc are fantastic at helping you feel better. These foods can help you feel full for longer also, which is a mood improver. It’s not hard to feel low when you are starving! These grains can improve your mood since it’s easy for your body to digest them. You digest these grains faster than other things which can help promote your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel better, mood wise.
Green tea is really great for your mood. You just knew green tea had to be mentioned, right? Green tea is found to be rich in an amino acid called L-theanine. Studies have found that this amino acid basically induces brain waves. This will improve your brain’s focus while at the same loosening up the rest of your body. You knew green tea could help you become healthier. Now you know that green tea can elevate your mood also!
Now you can see that junk food isn’t necessarily what you should eat when you are wanting to help your moods get better. Try several of these instead!
