Use Food to Elevate Your Mood

Many of us have been conditioned to think that comfort foods are terrible and must be avoided. At times, if the comfort food is a high sugar food or another junk food, this is true. Otherwise, comfort foods could be super nutritious and good for you. Several foods actually do raise your mood when you eat them. If you seem to feel a little bit down and need a happiness pick me up, try a few of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, are fantastic for helping you battle depression. Just make sure that you don’t throw away the egg yolk. The egg yolk is the most essential part of the egg in terms of helping you cheer up. Eggs, the egg yolks particularly, are high in B vitamins. These B vitamins are great for helping to elevate your mood. This is because the B vitamins improve the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that affect how you feel). Try to eat an egg and feel happier!

Make a trail mix out of seeds and/or nuts. Your mood can be elevated by eating peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, etc. This is because these foods are loaded with magnesium, which helps to increase serotonin production. Serotonin is referred to as the “feel good” chemical substance and it tells your brain how you should be feeling day in and day out. The more serotonin you have, the better you are going to feel. Not just that, nuts, specifically, are a fantastic protein source.

If you would like to fight depression, try consuming some cold water fish. Salmon, herring, tuna fish, mackerel, trout, etc, they’re all high in omega-3 fatty acids and DHA. These are two substances that boost the quality and function of the grey matter in your brain. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can earnestly elevate your mood.

Grains can be good for fighting a bad mood. Barley, millet, quinoa, etc are fantastic at helping you have a happier mood. They help you feel full as well which can truly help to improve your mood. Feeling hungry can truly make you feel terrible! These grains can help your mood elevate since it’s not at all hard for your body to digest them. You digest them more quickly than other things which can help boost your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel more pleasant, mood wise.

Your mood can really be helped by green tea. You were sure it had to be included in this article, right? Green tea is loaded with a particular amino acid called L-theanine. Studies have found that this particular amino acid can essentially induce brain waves. This will better your brain’s focus while at the same relaxing the rest of your body. You likely already knew it is not hard to become healthy when you drink green tea. Now you know that green tea can improve your mood as well!

So you see, you don’t need to eat junk food or foods that are not good for you just so to feel better! Try a couple of of these suggestions instead.
