Try Using Food to Improve Your Mood
Mostly, people have been conditioned to believe that “comfort” foods are not good for the body and have to be avoided. Often, if your comfort food is a sugary food or another junk food, this holds true. At times, comfort foods can be very nutritious and good for us to consume. There are several foods that, when you consume them, could boost your mood. If you seem to feel a little bit down and you need a happiness pick me up, try some of these.
Eggs, believe it or not, are wonderful for helping you fight depression. You must be sure, though, that what you make includes the egg yolk. The yolk is the most crucial part of the egg in terms of helping raise your mood. Eggs, especially the egg yolks, are full of B vitamins. These B vitamins are wonderful for helping to raise your mood. This is because they help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that dictate your mood–run better. Consume an egg and feel a lot better!
Make a trail mix out of seeds and/or nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, etc are all terrific for helping to elevate your mood. This is possible because these foods are high in magnesium which increases serotonin production. Serotonin is a feel-good chemical that directs the brain how to feel at any given time. The more serotonin you have, the more pleasant you will feel. Not just that, nuts, in particular, are a terrific protein food source.
Cold water fish are excellent for eating if you are wanting to fight depression. Cold water fish including tuna, trout and wild salmon are rich in DHA and omega-3s. DHA and omega-3s are two things that truly help the grey matter in your brain function a lot better. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can actually help you overcome depression.
It’s not difficult to drive away your bad mood when you consume grains. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all truly excellent for helping boost your happiness levels. They fill you up better and that can help improve your moods as well. Feeling hungry can be a real downer! These grains can improve your mood because it’s easy for your body to digest them. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps promote a rise in your blood glucose which in turn kicks up your mood to a happier place.
Green tea is really excellent for your mood. You knew it had to be included in this article, right? Green tea is high in a particular amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Studies have found that this specific amino acid can actually induce brain waves. This helps raise your mental sharpness while calming the rest of your body. You likely already knew how easy it is to become healthy when you consume green tea. Now you know that green tea helps you to raise your moods as well!
As you can see, you don’t need to eat junk food or foods that are not good for you just so to feel better! Try several of these instead!
