Foods That Can Make You Happy
Many of us have been taught to think that comfort foods are terrible and should be avoided. Sometimes, if your comfort food is candy or another junk food, this is very true. Soemtimes, comfort foods can be utterly healthy and good for us to consume. A number of foods really do improve your mood when you eat them. If you feel a little bit down and you’re in need of a happiness pick me up, try a few of these.
Eggs, believe it or not, can be really great at dealing with depression. Just be sure that you don’t get rid of the yolk. The egg yolk is the most important part of the egg iwhen it comes to helping you cheer up. Eggs, the egg yolk especially, are stuffed full of B vitamins. B vitamins can be terrific for lifting up your mood. This is because the B vitamins help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that control your mood–run better. Try eating an egg and cheer up!
Make a trail mixout of a variety of seeds and nuts. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, etc are all good for improving your mood. This is possible since these foods have a bunch of magnesium which raises serotonin production. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical that directs your brain how you feel all the time. The more of it in your brain, the happier you’ll feel. Nuts, in addition to improving your mood, can be a super source of protein.
If you want to fight depression, you should eat some cold water fish. Herring, trout, tuna, wild salmon, and mackerel are all rich in omega-3s and DHA. Omega-3 fatty acids and DHA are two things that actually help the grey matter in your brain run a lot better. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can actually help you fight depression.
Grains can be good for driving away a terrible mood. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all truly excellent for helping increase your happiness levels. These grains fill you up better and that can help elevate your moods also. Feeling starved can truly make you feel awful! The reason these grains are so great for your mood is that they are easy for your stomach to digest. They are simpler to digest than other foods which helps raise your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, improves your mood.
Green tea is excellent for moods. You were sure it had to be mentioned in this article, right? Green tea is rich in a specific amino acid called L-theanine. Studies have found that this specific amino acid can essentially stimulate brain waves. This will improve your brain’s concentration while simultaneously loosening up the rest of your body. You knew that green tea helps you feel better. Now you know that applies to your mood also!
As you can see, you don’t need to stuff your face with junk food when you wish to feel better! Try some of these suggestions instead.
