Foods That Can Make Your Mood Better
Most of us have been taught to think that comfort foods are not good and should be avoided. But if your comfort food is candy or junk food this might be true. Other times, though, comfort foods can be totally healthy and it’s good for you to eat them. There are a number of foods that really can boost your moods when you consume them. If you feel a little bit down and you’re needing an emotional pick me up, try a number of these.
Eggs, believe it or not, can be truly great at beating back depression. You need to be sure, however, that what you make includes the yolk. Whenever you would like to cheer yourself up, the egg yolk is the most important part of the egg. Eggs, especially the yolks, are rich in B vitamins. B vitamins can genuinely help you raise your mood. This is because the B vitamins increase the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that affect how you feel). Eat an egg and be happy!
Make a trail mixout of various seeds and nuts. Your mood can be raised by eating peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, and other types of nuts. This is because these nuts are loaded with magnesium, which helps to boost serotonin production. Serotonin is a feel-good chemical that tells the brain how to feel at any given moment. The more serotonin you have, the happier you will feel. Nuts, in addition to improving your mood, can be a great source of protein.
Cold water fish are excellent for eating if you want to beat back depression. Herring, trout, tuna, wild salmon, and mackerel are all rich in omega-3 fatty acids and DHA. These are two substances that promote the quality and function of the gray matter in your brain. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can seriously raise your mood.
It’s easy to fight your bad mood when you consume grains. Barley, millet, quinoa, etc are great at helping you feel happier. They can help you feel full for longer also, which can help your mood too. Feeling starved can actually make you feel terrible! These grains can elevate your mood since it’s not at all difficult for your body to digest them. You digest these grains more quickly than other things which can help promote your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel happier, mood wise.
Your mood could actually be helped by green tea. You were just waiting to read that, weren’t you? Green tea is rich in an amino acid known as L-theanine. Studies have discovered that this amino acid essentially induces brain waves. This helps improve your mental acuity while calming the rest of your body. You already knew that green tea helps you become better. Now you are aware that green tea helps you to elevate your moods as well!
As you can see, you don’t need to consume all that junk food when you want to feel better! Try some of these instead!
