Foods That Can Make You Happy

In general, people have been conditioned to think that “comfort” foods are terrible for the body and need to be avoided. Often, if the comfort food is a sugary food or some other junk food, this is very true. Other times, however, comfort foods can be altogether healthy and it’s good for you to eat them. There are several foods that, when you consume them, may boost your mood. If you are feeling a little bit down and you’re in need of a happiness pick me up, try some of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, can be truly great at fighting back depression. Just make sure that you do not toss the yolk. The egg yolk is the part of the egg that is the most important in terms of helping raise your mood. Eggs, the yolk in particular, are high in B vitamins. B vitamins can be fantastic for lifting up your mood. This is because these vitamins improve the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that tell you how to feel). Consume an egg and cheer up!

Put together a trail mixfrom different seeds and nuts. Your mood can be raised by eating peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, and other types of nuts. This is because these nuts are high in magnesium, which helps to raise your production of serotonin. Serotonin is referred to as the “feel good” substance that our body produces and it tells your brain how you should be feeling at all times. The more serotonin you have, the better you are going to feel. Nuts, along with elevating your mood, can be a super source of protein.

Cold water fish are wonderful for eating if you are wanting to fight depression. Cold water fish including tuna, trout and wild salmon are chock full of DHA and omega-3 fats. These are two substances that promote the quality and function of the gray matter in your brain. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can earnestly boost your mood.

Some grains are actually great for fighting off bad moods. Barley, quinoa, millet, teff, etc are all excellent for helping you be in a happier state of mind. They help you feel full too which can actually help to better your mood. Feeling starved can actually make you feel terrible! The reason these grains help your mood so much is that they are not hard to digest. They are easier to digest than other foods which helps raise your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, improves your mood.

Green tea is fantastic for moods. You were simply waiting to read that here, weren’t you? Green tea has a lot of an amino acid called L-theanine. Studies have found that this specific amino acid can basically induce brain waves. This helps sharpen your mental energy while simultaneously calming your body. You were already aware that green tea could help you be better. Now you know that green tea can elevate your mood also!

Now you can see that junk food isn’t necessarily what you should eat when you want to help your moods get better. Try a couple of of these tips instead.
