Discover How to Improve Your Mood with Food

A lot of us think that comfort foods are terrible for us and that we should stay away from them. At times, if the comfort food is candy or another junk food, this holds true. Otherwise, comfort foods could be very nourishing and good for you. Some foods actually do boost your mood when you eat them. If you are feeling a little bit down and you’re needing an emotional pick me up, try several of these.

Eggs, you might be amazed to learn, are terrific at fighting depression. Just make sure that you do not throw away the egg yolk. The yolk is the most important part of the egg in terms of helping elevate your mood. Eggs, the egg yolks especially, are loaded with B vitamins. B vitamins can genuinely help you elevate your mood. This is because they help improve the function of your neural transmitters, the components of your brain that control your mood. Try eating an egg and be happy!

Build a trail mix out of seeds and/or nuts. Your mood can be raised by consuming peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, and other types of nuts. This is because these foods are rich in magnesium, which helps to raise serotonin levels. Serotonin is called the “feel good” chemical substance and it tells your brain how you should be feeling at all times. The higher your levels of serotonin, the more pleasant you are going to feel. Not only that, nuts, specifically, are a great source of protein.

Cold water fish are great for eating if you want to fight depression. Cold water fish like tuna, trout and wild salmon are chock full of DHA and omega-3 fats. Omega-3 fatty acids and DHA are two things that raise the quality and the function of your brain’s gray matter. It’s the truth: consuming tuna fish sandwiches can actually help you fight your depression.

Grains can be great for driving away a terrible mood. Quinoa, barley, teff, millet, etc are all good for helping you be in a happier state of mind. These grains fill you up better and that can help elevate your moods also. Feeling starved can actually make you feel terrible! These grains can improve your mood as it’s not at all hard for your body to digest them. You digest these foods faster than other things which can help increase your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel better, mood wise.

Green tea is wonderful for moods. You were sure it had to be mentioned in this article, right? Green tea is high in a specific amino acid known as L-theanine. Research has discovered that this amino acid stimulates the production of brain waves. This helps better your mental acuity while relaxing the rest of your body. You likely already knew it is not difficult to be healthy when you drink green tea. Now you are well aware that green tea helps you to lift your moods as well!

As you can see, you don’t need to stuff your face with junk food when you want to feel better! Test out these tips instead!
