Use Food to Boost Your Mood

Many of us think that comfort foods are not good for us and that we ought to stay away from them. If your comfort food is candy or junk food this is true. Other times, however, comfort foods can be altogether nutritious and it’s good for you to eat them. Several foods really do raise your mood when you eat them. If you feel a little bit down and need a happiness pick me up, try some of these.

Eggs, you might be surprised to discover, are terrific at combating depression. Just be sure that you do not throw away the yolk. The egg yolk is the part of the egg that is the most crucial in terms of helping you cheer up. Eggs, the egg yolk especially, are rich in B vitamins. B vitamins can be terrific for boosting your mood. This is because these vitamins help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that affect your mood–function better. Eat an egg and feel a lot better!

Put together several trail mix of nuts or seeds. Your mood can be elevated by consuming peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, etcetera. This is because seeds and nuts have plenty of magnesium which increases your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is referred to as the “feel good” chemical substance and it tells your brain how you should be feeling at all times. The more serotonin you have, the happier you are going to feel. Not only that but nuts, particularly, are a terrific protein food source.

Cold water fish are good if you are wanting to be in a better mood. Wild salmon, herring, mackerel, trout, and tuna are all rich in omega-3 fats and DHA. Omega-3 fatty acids and DHA are two things that truly help the grey matter in your brain work a lot better. It’s the truth: eating tuna fish sandwiches can really help you fight your depression.

It’s not difficult to fight your bad mood when you are eating grains. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all really great for helping raise your happiness levels. These foods can help you feel full for longer too, helping you feel better. Feeling hungry can be terrible! These grains can improve your mood as it’s easy for your body to digest them. You digest these foods more quickly than other things which can help promote your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel happier, mood wise.

Green tea is fantastic for moods. You just knew green tea had to be in this article somewhere, right? Green tea has been found to be rich in an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Studies have discovered that this amino acid basically induces brain waves. This helps sharpen your mental energy while at the same time making the rest of your body more relaxed. You likely already knew it is not difficult to become healthy when you consume green tea. Now you know that it helps you to elevate your moods also!

As you can see, you don’t need to consume all that junk food when you wish to feel better! Try some of these instead!
