Many of us believe that comfort foods are not good for us and that we ought to keep away from them. However, if your comfort food is candy or junk food this can be true. Other times, comfort foods can be very nutritious and good for us to eat. There are several foods that, when you eat them, could improve your mood. If you are feeling a little bit down and in need of an emotional pick me up, try a number of these.
Eggs, you may be astonished to discover, are fantastic at battling depression. Just be sure that you do not toss the yolk. The egg yolk is the most important part of the egg iwhen it comes to helping raise your mood. Eggs, especially the egg yolks, are loaded with B vitamins. B vitamins can really help you raise your mood. This is because the B vitamins help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that control your mood–function better. Consume an egg and feel better!
Put together a trail mixfrom different seeds and nuts. Your mood can be improved by eating peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, and so on. This is because seeds and nuts have plenty of magnesium which raises your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is known as the “feel good” substance that our body produces and it tells your brain how you should be feeling day in and day out. The more serotonin in your brain, the better you’ll feel. Not just that, nuts, particularly, are a great protein food source.
Cold water fish are excellent for eating if you are wanting to fight depression. Wild salmon, herring, mackerel, trout, and tuna are all rich in omega-3s and DHA. These are two substances that increase the quality and function of the grey matter in your brain. It’s the truth: consuming tuna fish sandwiches can really help you fight your depression.
Some grains are truly great for repelling bad moods. Quinoa, barley, teff, millet, etc are all good for helping you feel happier. They can help you feel full for longer as well, which can help your mood too. It’s not hard to feel depressed when you feel hungry! The reason these grains are so good for your mood is that they are not difficult for your stomach to digest. You digest these grains faster than other things which can help promote your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel more pleasant, mood wise.
Green tea is excellent for moods. You knew green tea had to be mentioned, right? Green tea is rich in a particular amino acid known as L-theanine.
