Discover How to Improve Your Mood with Food

Mostly, people have been trained to think that “comfort” foods are not good for the body and must be avoided. However, if your comfort food is candy or junk food this holds true. Other times, comfort foods can be perfectly nutritious and good for us to consume. Several foods really do raise your mood when you eat them. When you are feeling a little down and need an emotional pick-me-up, test out a few of these.

Eggs, you may be astonished to find out, are wonderful at battling depression. You should be sure, however, that what you make includes the yolk. The yolk is the most crucial part of the egg iwhen it comes to helping elevate your mood. Eggs, the egg yolk particularly, are high in B vitamins. B vitamins can genuinely help you improve your mood. This is because these vitamins increase the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that affect how you feel). Eat an egg and jolly up!

Make a trail mix out of seeds and/or nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, etcetera are all terrific for helping to elevate your mood. This is possible since these foods are rich in magnesium which promotes serotonin production. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical that tells your brain how you feel all the time. The higher your levels of serotonin, the better you are going to feel. Not only that but nuts, specifically, are a terrific source of protein.

Cold water fish are wonderful for eating if you wish to beat back depression. Cold water fish such as tuna, trout and wild salmon are chock full of DHA and omega-3s. These are two substances that boost the quality and function of the gray matter in your brain. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can actually help you fight back depression.

Some grains are actually great for repelling bad moods. Quinoa, barley, teff, millet, etc are all great for helping you feel happier. They help you feel full too which can actually help to improve your mood. It’s easy to feel depressed when you feel famished! The reason these grains are so wonderful for your mood is that they are easy for your body to digest and process. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps promote a rise in your blood sugar which in turn brings up your mood to a happier place.

Your mood can actually be helped by green tea. You were just anticipating to read that here, weren’t you? Green tea is rich in a specific amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Studies prove that this particular amino acid can essentially stimulate brain waves. This helps raise your mental focus while calming the rest of your body. You likely already knew how easy it is to get healthy when you consume green tea. Now you are aware that green tea can help you be happier too!

You can see, you don’t have to turn to junk food or foods that are bad for you just so to feel better! Go with these hints instead!
