How to Boost Your Mood with Food

A lot of us believe that comfort foods are not good for us and that we must keep away from them. If your comfort food is candy or junk food this might be true. Other times, though, comfort foods can be altogether healthy and it’s good for you to eat them. Some foods honestly do elevate your mood when you consume them. If you feel a little bit down and you’re needing an emotional pick me up, try several of these.

Eggs, you might be amazed to learn, are fantastic at combating depression. You should see to it, though, that what you make includes the yolk. The egg yolk is the most essential part of the egg in terms of helping elevate your mood. Eggs, the yolk particularly, are rich in B vitamins. These B vitamins are terrific for helping to elevate your mood. This is because they help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that control your mood–work better. Consume an egg and jolly up!

Put together several trail mix of nuts or seeds. Your mood can be elevated by eating peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, etc. This is because seeds and nuts have a lot of magnesium which raises your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical substance that tells your brain how you feel day in and day out. The higher your serotonin levels, the happier you will feel. Not just that but nuts, in particular, are a fantastic protein food source.

If you want to fight depression, try eating some cold water fish. Cold water fish such as tuna, trout and wild salmon are rich in DHA and omega-3 fatty acids. These are two things that raise the quality and the function of your brain’s grey matter. It’s true: chomping on a tuna fish sandwich can actually help you fight depression.

Grains can be good for driving away a terrible mood. Teff, barley, millet, quinoa, etc are all great for helping you feel happier. These grains can help you feel full for longer also, which is a mood improver. It’s easy to feel low when you are starving! These grains can elevate your mood as it’s easy for your body to digest them. You digest these foods more quickly than other foods which can help increase your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel happier, mood wise.

Green tea is wonderful for moods. You were simply waiting to read that here, weren’t you? Green tea is rich in an amino acid called L-theanine. Studies prove that this specific amino acid can essentially stimulate brain waves. This helps improve your mental energy while simultaneously calming your body. You were already aware that that green tea helps you be a lot healthier. And now you are aware that it can help raise your mood too!

See, you don’t need to stuff your face with junk food when you wish to feel better! Try some of these tips instead.
