Discover How to Boost Your Mood with Food
For the most part, people have been trained to believe that “comfort” foods are not good for the body and must be avoided. Often, if your comfort food is a high sugar food or another junk food, this is very true. Other times, however, comfort foods can be altogether nutritious and it’s good for you to consume them. Several foods actually do boost your mood when you consume them. If you feel a little bit down and you’re in need of a happiness pick me up, try a couple of these.
Eggs, believe it or not, can be actually great at beating back depression. Just make sure that you don’t toss out the egg yolk. The yolk is the most crucial part of the egg iwhen it comes to helping raise your mood. Eggs, especially the egg yolks, are loaded with B vitamins. These B vitamins are wonderful for helping to boost your mood. This is because they help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that control your mood–function better. Consume an egg and feel a lot happier!
Make a trail mix from seeds and/or nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, etcetera are all terrific for helping to boost your mood. This is because seeds and nuts have plenty of magnesium which raises your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is a feel-good chemical substance that dictates to the brain how to feel at any given point in time. The higher your serotonin levels, the happier you will feel. Nuts, on top of improving your mood, can be a superb protein source.
Cold water fish are great if you would like to feel happier. Cold water fish including tuna, trout and wild salmon are high in DHA and omega-3 fatty acids. These are two substances that increase the quality and function of the grey matter in your brain. It’s the truth: eating tuna fish sandwiches can actually help you overcome your depression.
Some grains are truly great for driving away bad moods. Millet, quinoa, barley, etc are terrific at helping you feel better. These foods can help you feel full for longer as well, helping you feel better. It’s easy to feel low when you feel hungry! The reason these grains are so good for your mood is that they are not hard for your body to digest and process. They are easier to digest than other foods which helps kick up your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, elevates your mood.
Green tea is excellent for moods. You knew green tea had to be mentioned, right? Green tea has a lot of an amino acid referred to as L-theanine.
