Turn to Food to Boost Your Mood

Most of us think that comfort foods are bad for us and that we must stay away from them. However, if your comfort food is candy or junk food this holds true. Otherwise, comfort foods could be really nourishing and good for you. There are a number of foods that, when you eat them, may improve your mood. If you feel a little bit down and need a happiness pick me up, try a couple of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, can be truly terrific at fighting back depression. Just see to it that you don’t throw away the egg yolk. When you wish to cheer yourself up, the egg yolk is the most vital part of the egg. Eggs, the yolk particularly, are rich in B vitamins. B vitamins can be terrific for elevating your mood. This is because they help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that affect your mood–work better. Eat some eggs to cheer up!

Make several trail mix of nuts or seeds. Your mood can be improved by eating peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, etcetera. This is because these nuts are rich in magnesium, which helps to boost your production of serotonin. Serotonin is a feel-good chemical substance that dictates to the brain how to feel at any given time. The more of it you have, the better you are going to feel. Nuts, in addition to bettering your mood, can be a superb protein source.

Cold water fish are great for eating if you wish to combat depression. Cold water fish like tuna, trout and wild salmon are high in DHA and omega-3s. Omega-3 fatty acids and DHA are two things that promote the quality and the function of your brain’s gray matter. It’s the truth: consuming tuna fish sandwiches can actually help you battle your depression.

Grains can be great for driving away a terrible mood. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all actually great for helping boost your happiness levels. They help you feel full as well which can truly help to make your mood better. It’s not difficult to feel depressed when you feel hungry! These grains can improve your mood since it’s not at all hard for your body to digest them. They are simpler to digest than other foods which helps raise your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, raises your mood.

Green tea is fantastic for moods. You were sure green tea had to be included in this article, right? Green tea is high in a particular amino acid known as L-theanine. Studies prove that this specific amino acid can actually stimulate brain waves. This helps focus your mental energy while simultaneously making the rest of your body more relaxed. You already knew green tea could help you become better. Now you know that green tea helps you to raise your moods also!

So you see, you don’t need to consume all that junk food when you are wanting to feel better! Try a few of these instead!
